Oscar night is one of my favorite nights of the year. Is it for the awareness of my favorite media artform, film? It is for the award acceptance speeches? It is for the witty host comments? Oh no... it is for the dresses. Best and Worst. In all honesty, I didn't even watch the awards this year. I google searched the winners list and then spent hours viewing red carpet photo footage.
My absolute favorite and winner for the night is the beautiful Meryl Streep. She dressed in a glorious golden gown that matched her well deserved golden buddy later in the night. This woman has so much class and I want to be her when I grow up. Or as close to Miranda Priestly as possible.
My new favorite style icon of the year is the lovely Rooney Mara. It is the true sign of a great actress when you can transform from a troubled 23 year old tattooed woman with a history of violence and being held in a children's mental institution into such an elegant beauty. This white dress was a stunner on the red carpet. I for one cannot wait to see what else lies in her future and in her closet.
Jessica Chastain is my new favorite honey in films. She is stunning and charming in her role in the Help and my love for her continues onto the red carpet. I am jealous of this dress more than any other! It is gorgeous. The shape. Color. Detail. Not to mention her hair. Love. Love. Love.
I have always been a fan of Michelle Williams' work. She amazed me Brokeback Mountain as I hated her for stealing my lover, Heath Ledger. Her work in I'm Not There was entertaining.. But it is her recent work in Blue Valentine, Shutter Island, and the most recent Me Week With Marilyn that has really established Williams as a great force in the film world. Her style is also always impressive. Another home run in this beautiful Dolce & Gabbana gown!
The greatest breakout star of the year is the gorgeous, Octavia Spencer. This is the second "I love Minny" reference in this blog post but, this woman in a wonder. Her comedic timing and compassion that she brought to her role in the Help couldn't have been more perfect. The perfection continues in her red carpet ensemble. This dress hugs her curves in all the right ways. You go lady!
Another knockout from Glenn Close. Her career is spectacular. I hated her as a kid as Cruella Deville, as one should, and was completely in love with her in Albert Nobbs. She has done some good planning in her life. Best plan since Nobbs, this green dress. She is anything but masculine in the curve hugging gown with beautiful train. It is sexy and age appropriate. What? I would wear that now, if I were mormon... No, I would still wear it.
I may have a slight obsession with Tina Fey. I wouldn't go so far as a stalker status but that is only because I don't know where she lives but I know that it is too far away and inconvenient for me. She is incredibly classy and stunning in this dress. I will hopefully transform into something like this before my Streep days are here.
And now to least favorite...
Oh Sandra B... You always seem to come up with the most interesting interpretation of fashion forward thinking. Will everyone be sporting sea creatures of their clothing next year? Predictions lead to: not likely. Thanks 8 ball.
I realize there is nothing wrong with anything being worn in this picture. But they look like their wax figures. Maybe these are the wax Angelina and Brad... Also, note to the "internet meme": Yes, her leg looks amazing but I think her inner thigh must be in pain from staying in that position all night...
Favorite moments of the night!
WWU alum wins an Oscar! Congratulations TJ Martin. That was such an incredible moment for you and it was incredible for me to see you in red square and point and say, "that's an Oscar winner." Thank you for making my life cooler.
I didn't really love either of these dress. I don't really love either of these women. But I really enjoy this "ass-grabbing" moment. I would like to know their thoughts here....
Jennifer: My ass is so much better than this skinny white girl.
Cameron: My lips hurt.
And now to me. Quite the opposite of glamor but I enjoy it all the same. The dress is being worn in its natural form with a plaid shirt that is the boys, shhh... don't tell, with a teal belt donated by Riley, cream jacket donated by Sadie, brown tights donated by Leah, grey Nordstroms socks, CharlotteRouse heals, and Forever21 hat. Color pops here and there are always nice.
